I studied the oboe at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama,
from 1981 - 85, with Anthony Camden. After leaving there, I freelanced
in London with many orchestras, including The London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic,
Philharmonia, BBC Concert, English Sinfonia, English National and Royal
Ballets. Conductors I played for include Andre Previn, Sir Yehudi Menhuin,
Sir Colin Davis, Yuri Temirkanov, and Michael Tilson Thomas.
I was also the Cor Anglais player for 10 years for the
Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, playing a wide variety of music,
from tours to Japan and Korea with Henry Mancini, to"Classical Spectacular"
performances at the Royal Albert Hall, backing tracks, pop videos, and
various product launches. As a member of The London Virtuosi, I also had
the chance to be a soloist, playing many Baroque concertos in Europe and
the Far East.
I worked extensively in London's West End Theatres, deputising
in the shows; Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables,
Martin Guerre, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Crazy for
You, and A Little Night Music at the National Theatre. Later, I also had
my own chairs in the West End, starting with Carousel at the Shaftesbury
Theatre, then Fiddler on the Roof, with Topol at the London Palladium,
the award winning Oliver, with Jonathan Price, again at the London Palladium,
and ending with Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the Dominion Theatre.
